THE LOWDOWN
S2 MOTION GRAPHICS PACKAGE
For Season 2 of The Lowdown, we partnered with FX Networks to evolve the show's graphics package, building on a Season 1 system that had already earned its place in the show's identity.
Our starting point was a close read of what Season 1 did exceptionally well: the warmth, the texture, the confident typographic voice. Rather than reinvent it, we set out to push it somewhere new. Season 1 leaned into interior, atmospheric looks; for Season 2, we shifted the package toward a character-driven exploration, letting the people of Tulsa carry the design.
That shift was shaped by the season itself. With Tommy Lee Jones and Betty Gilpin joining the cast, favorites returning, and the story opening up into a wider view of Tulsa, the graphics needed to feel as expansive as the world on screen. We tested a broad range of techniques before landing on our direction: placing the graphics within 3D space so they live inside the town and alongside the characters, rather than sitting on top of the picture.
The result is a package that feels unmistakably The Lowdown, true to the chaos and charm of life around Lee Raybon, while giving Season 2 a look of its own. A great show, a rewarding design challenge, and a natural evolution of a system fans already loved.
